In our infant program, caring, supportive teachers foster social-emotional development through nurturing relationships with the children, while infants develop physical skills as they learn to move and manipulate toys.
Teachers and parents work together to create a daily schedule full of learning experiences and caregiving moments. Individual and small-group connection activities and rich, meaningful interactions encourage infants’ cognitive skills as they learn to navigate their world.
Our teachers nurture and encourage the children as they begin to communicate, crawl and walk. These developing skills lead to an expansion of emotions, such as frustration if children stumble while learning to walk, and joy when they succeed.
Safety: In our infant program your baby’s safety and security is the highest priority. We adhere to all of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for safe sleep. Infants are placed on their backs to sleep in cribs that are compliant with the most up-to-date standards. Cribs are not shared; no soft bedding is permitted in the cribs and our highly trained teachers complete documented crib checks on sleeping infants at least every ten minutes.
Our infant rooms are “baby-proofed” and proper, state mandated infant-to-teacher ratios are always maintained. Infants are held when bottle-fed and all toys are age-appropriate and sanitized. Extra measures are in place to ensure hand washing and diapering are performed to maintain the highest level of cleanliness.
TODDLER … Always on the Move
When your child is all over the place, they’re discovering their world. Toddlers learn best in safe, loving places they can explore, in their own way. The activities for this age group are built around toddlers’ limitless curiosity and their natural desire to push boundaries.
Thomas Learning Centers has two Toddler programs – a younger toddler class for children 12 months to 24 months and an older toddler class for children 24 months to 36 months. Our toddler rooms are safe, spacious and inviting for your child, a place that offers a diversity of age specific learning tools and social opportunities for all children.
As children begin to walk and talk regularly, their curiosity drives them to explore. Our toddler program encourages children’s developing independence by helping them sharpen self-help skills such as the ability to feed themselves, relate to others, and make choices.
These skills and the opportunity to play and discover empower children to become more confident learners as they investigate new concepts. Example, when a toddler plays with a shape sorter toy, the child is developing basic problem-solving skills and learning what different shapes look and feel like. When your child picks out a puzzle and tries to put it together, your child is planning and completing a simple project. This helps children develop feelings of competence and self-esteem, setting the foundation for future learning success.
Potty training is a significant step for the older toddlers towards their self-identity and self-esteem. Therefore, our knowledgeable teachers will work with both child and parent(s) to create a consistent and positive experience for the child during this important developmental stage. We will help guide you and your child to identify the signs of potty-training readiness.
Your little one is discovering more and more each day. Our approach to teaching this age as they navigate their world uses music, art, and movement while nurturing their progress toward preschool.
Our Toddler 2 classroom provides the perfect transition from our toddler program to our preschool program. Children become more adept at using utensils, paintbrushes and markers. As they master their fine motor skills they play with a purpose.
Your toddler will be exposed to colors, shapes, numbers, letters, art sensory activities, song & dance, books, puzzles and many other developmental learning activities throughout their daily routine. The development of language and self-help skills are encouraged and promoted through creative play and complementary language development opportunities.
At Thomas Learning Centers, our Preschool program offers the developmental life skills necessary for your child to become a successful learner. Your child will be exposed to a social setting with an exploratory focus in areas such as language, math, science, sensory, dramatic play, blocks and manipulative play and art exploration. Group times are very important at this age because your child is becoming an independent person and we want your child to feel very comfortable with who they are.
Preschool is a fun and exciting time in a child’s life. Your child will absolutely love coming to school daily at Thomas Learning Centers. Perseverance is the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve a goal, which is essential to children’s success in school, career and life. Our teachers are very dedicated and experienced in the developmental stages of these important years. They realize that each child needs to develop at their own pace and therefore offer many activities in language, math, and science, fine motor and gross motor skills. The activities are set up in learning centers which offers opportunities for your child to develop self-confidence, decision making, patience and independence skills. Learning through play is one of the most important ways your child will learn and is an essential element of our curriculum.
Each class offers circle time where students co-mingle and interact with the teacher and the daily lesson. This provides each student the opportunity to listen and speak and engage their classmates and teachers, building the cognitive and social skills while learning. By allowing preschoolers to experience these important developmental learning stages – they will become more comfortable with their own independence and begin learning tolerance, patience, rules, self-confidence, decision making, and independence skills.
Your child will gain independence while getting ready for the transition to kindergarten with a more organized environment. Our passionate teachers will partner with you during this special time making their “senior year” of preschool the best it can be. Thomas Learning Centers’ Pre-Kindergarten program prepares your child for that big developmental step to Kindergarten. Through our challenging activities children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills they will need to be successful in kindergarten, school and life. Your child will be presented daily opportunities for listening, speaking and engaging with peers and teachers.
Our Pre-Kindergarten program provides the stimulation and promotes the curiosity for our students to excel in Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science. Students are exposed to new and current concepts in an inquiring, cooperative and nurturing environment.
Your Pre-Kindergartener will experience a full day of exploration that will guide them to become a confident learner. Their day will consist of large group activities, as well as small group center-based activities that take place as rotations. We offer a well-balanced combination of teacher-led student-directed and independent learning opportunities. Concepts are taught using a theme-based model. The areas of language, math, science, art, practical life skills and dramatic play are addressed through weekly themes.
