The core belief in The Creative Curriculum is all children can learn and benefit from a developmentally appropriate program. Developmentally appropriate program means teaching in ways that match the way children develop and learn. The Creative Curriculum will assist to create a learning environment that will support your child’s natural desires to explore and learn. Our educated team of teachers will provide many learning opportunities for every child through “learning centers”, structured and unstructured play that supports and encourages a child to engage in academic learning activities.
The Zoo-phonics Curriculum is a Multisensory Language Arts Program that meets the Colorado common core standards. The Zoo-phonics Curriculum is intended to teach the children the alphabet, reading, spelling and writing. The Zoo-phonics Multisensory Language Arts Program is kinesthetic, multi-modal approach to learning all aspects of language arts, including vocabulary development and articulation based on phonics and phonemic awareness. Zoo-phonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement is given for each letter. The concrete approach cements the sounds to the shape of the letters. Zoo-phonics also provides a springboard for all other academia such as math, art, music, cooking/nutrition, social studies, science, physical education and sensory/drama.
IS FOOD A PART OF CURRICULUM?
Food at Thomas Learning Centers is most definitely a part of our curriculum! Just as the kitchen is the heart of the home, meals around the table at school can be excellent settings for conversation, discovery, and social emotional development.
We take advantage of every opportunity to interact with our students and love to include unconventional materials in the learning process.
If it is taking a field trip to our local farmer's market, growing herbs in our garden onsite, or even making "edible" art like fruit pizza - we provide multi-sensory experiences that enhance the concepts we are exploring together.
Food can often be a source of frustration with children as they learn to navigate and develop their personal taste and style. By serving meals and snacks family style, or involving a relaxed approach to meals we often witness our students become more adventerous in their food preferences.
